What is the hair loss subsidy?
The Wigs and Hairpieces Service Payment is a government payment to people who suffer from serious hair loss because of a medical condition or from certain cancer therapies. The payments are to reduce the cost of purchasing and maintaining a wig or hairpiece or other related products.
To be eligible for the subsidy you must be a New Zealand citizen or reside in New Zealand.
Superior Hair is registered with the New Zealand Ministry of Health as a provider of wigs that you can use the subsidy to buy.

What conditions are covered by the subsidy?
Medical conditions covered include cancer, alopecia, trichotillomania, and burns or scarring on the scalp that prevent hair regeneration.

What can I buy with the subsidy?
The grant covers the cost of wigs or hair pieces, and headwear such as hats and turbans.

How much can I claim?

How do I claim the subsidy?
To qualify, your specialist or GP needs to give you a current medical certificate with your NHI number, and provide details of the hair loss and whether the condition is temporaryor permanent.
Superior Hair may then make a claim for the wig purchase on your behalf or you may claim direct.
